Frequently Asked Questions

Is your produce all grown locally?

Beanies Box Scheme was Sheffield's original box scheme.
We aim to use our local and regional growers to fill our boxes where possible but as with ALL box schemes, national or locally organised, we are unable to source all our produce from local growers.  The staples - potatoes, carrots and onions - don't grow all year round so there are periods when we have to use imports from Europe.  Other produce - peppers, courgettes, aubergines - are available from the UK during the Summer but at other times we have to use Spanish.

Can I choose what goes in my box?

In a word, no.  We look at the produce available to us each week and decide what will go into the boxes.  So apart from the basics - Potatoes, Carrots and Onions - things change each week according to what's in season and also with a consideration of making the boxes varied and interesting from week to week.
So if you're not the sort of person who can cope with vegetable surprises then the box scheme may not suit you - but all is not lost!... You can opt for an a la carte order where you just tell us exactly what you want.  We'll put it together and deliver.  There is a charge of £3.60 for this service.

Some people have a standing order for eggs, milk or bread delivered alongside their box.  With the exception of frozen goods we are happy to deliver anything we sell.

What if I can't stand something can I swap it for something else?

If you need something left out we'll put a label on the box.
If there is something you don't like just let us know.  We'll happily take out the offending swede and replace it with something of a similar value.  Unfortunately you cannot specify what you would like as a substitute - we may not have eg artichokes available and the value of the item removed may be very different from that you wish to substitute.

If you know you want a certain item each week - talk to us and we can set you up a standing side order for that item.

What if I'm not in when you deliver?

Not a problem - providing there is somewhere out of sight and sheltered from the elements where we can leave it.

How do I pay?

If you're in you can pay the delivery driver with cash or cheque.
Otherwise you can phone with a debit or credit card.
If you like the scheme and want to stick with us for a while we can arrange to take payments by Direct Debit.  Ask your driver for details or give the shop a ring on 0114 2681662

Any further questions?  Do give us a ring or drop us an email on info@sheffieldbeanies.co.uk.
